Word DESIRE surrounded by flame

A BURNING DESIRE TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS

Most people don’t succeed in whatever they are trying to achieve in life because they don’t have a burning desire for what they want to accomplish.

They have so many options, so many things they want to achieve that they are prevented from narrowing their focus and making their goal a real necessity, i.e. something that cannot be overlooked.

When you make a goal a real necessity you want it so badly that you are willing to do anything in order to hit your target.

You are willing to go through hell, to sacrifice yourself, because achieving your goal has become the main purpose in your life.

No matter how strongly life hits you, you become unstoppable, the harder life hurts you, the stronger your desire becomes, and the farther you go.

What was a SHOULD becomes a MUST.

What was an EXCUSE becomes your REASON to follow through.

When your desire is burning, you don’t have any other options except for achieving your goal, i.e. you have burned your ships

In the same way as a small fire cannot provide enough heat, so a weak desire cannot lead you to great results.

Let me stress and clarify the above concepts by means of the following story.

THE SECRET TO SUCCESS ACCORDING TO SOCRATES

Cartoon of Socrates

Once upon a time, a young man was seeking wisdom; he wanted to find out what is needed to achieve success.

He thought the best thing to do would be to go to Socrates, the Greek Philosopher, well known as one of the founders of Western philosophy.

“Master, I walked all this way to hear from you, the wisest man in Athens, the secret to success?” the pupil asked.

The great philosopher paused for a while before saying: “I will explain the secret to success tomorrow, let’s meet at the beach early in the morning”.

The following day the Master and the pupil met as arranged.

Socrates walked into the water and invited the young man to do the same.

Once the level of water reached their chest Socrates suddenly grabbed the boy’s head and pushed it under the water.

In no time the young man started gasping for breath.

He fought as much as he could till he finally wriggled out of Socrates’ grasp and took a deep breath.

“What were you trying to do? Were you trying to kill me?” the pupil asked the master.

Socrates paused for a while before replying: “Dear friend, this is the secret for success; when you want something as badly as breath when you are about to drown nothing prevents you from getting it. Likewise, when you want to succeed as much as you want to breathe, your burning desire cannot but come true”.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

When you have a burning desire all the difficulties you encounter on the way towards achieving your goal are irrelevant.

You are driven by such a powerful force that you eventually hit your target.

A burning desire makes what used to be IMPOSSIBLE POSSIBLE.

Man crushing letter I M of the word IMPOSSIBLE

It is the starting point of all accomplishments.

How far would you go to make your burning desire come true?

Are you going to apply Socrates’ teaching? Are you going to want your goal as badly as breath?

If so, there is nothing that can stop you from achieving it.

I look forward to hearing about your accomplishments.

If you’re bored with life – you don’t get up every morning with a burning desire to do things – you don’t have enough goals.” -Lou Holtz
